Sometimes in life you’re lucky enough to meet someone who speaks the same language as you. And when this happens, you never ever want to let them go.
It felt this way when I met Jani. Although we lived in separate cities, we wrote so many letters that eventually evolved into long skype conversations, silly voice mail messages and a safety net of knowing we could rely on one another no matter what. In short, our friendship felt like a blessing.
I was pulled into a new and unfamiliar doorway though when Jani passed away on the 17th of February, 2015. For the first time in a very long time, I felt completely alone. The news shattered the way I understood life. And left so many people heartbroken. She was gone forever, and that finality was a shot to the chest.
After a while though I began to realise Jani had left so much of herself in my life and the lives of others. Little notes, video messages, a sense of unconditional love and the belief that we could keep trying to be better people. And the more I open up to this understanding – the more I realise Jani is everywhere I look. She left a beautiful mark on my life that will never be forgotten.
With that said, this is a Jani inspired space. We shared so many dreams, and made so many plans – the first being to create a blog together. One about fashion and travel and food. One that encouraged women to feel strong and love themselves whole-heartedly.
Bringing this blog to life with Jiji, honours the friendship I shared with Jani, as well as friendship in general. It is a connection to my past, present and future. And I hope will turn into a beautiful adventure.
